Abstract:

Objective To conduct a meta-analysis to investigate the interventional effect of mindfulness-based stress reduction(MBSR) on occupational burnout among clinical nurses, and to provide a reference for alleviating burnout in this population. Methods We systematically searched PubMed,Web of Science, the Cochrane Library,China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),WanFang Data, and VIP from their inception to October 2025 for randomized controlled trials(RCTs) examining the effects of MBSR on burnout among nurses. Two researchers independently performed literature screening, data extraction, and methodological quality assessment. Meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.4 software. Results A total of 12 articles involving 928 nurses were included. The Meta-analysis results showed statistically significant differences between the intervention group and the control group in emotional exhaustion(SMD=-1.94,95%CI:-2.66--1.22,P<0.01),depersonalization(SMD=-1.62,95%CI:-2.16--1.08,P<0.01),and reduced personal accomplishment(SMD=-1.18,95%CI:-2.16--0.20,P<0.01). Subgroup analysis indicated that intervention durations of 6 and 8 weeks significantly reduced nurses' emotional exhaustion levels, with the most pronounced effect at 8 weeks. Intervention durations ranging from 6 to 12 weeks significantly reduced depersonalization, with the most pronounced effect at 8 weeks. Both intervention modalities studied reduced emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, but the differences between the two modality groups were not statistically significant(all P>0.05). Intervention durations of 6 and 12 weeks reduced the levels of reduced personal accomplishment(both P<0.01),but the effect of the intervention modality was not significant(P>0.05). Conclusion MBSR can effectively alleviate occupational burnout among clinical nurses. It is recommended that healthcare institutions promote its application as a psychological support program for nurses.
