Abstract:

Objective To describe the epidemic characteristics of metabolic syndrome(MS) and its components in the occupational population aged 35-75 years old in Shunyi District of Beijing, and analyze the related risk factors of MS. Methods Using the cross-sectional survey method, the physical measurements and questionnaire surveys were conducted on the residents aged 35-75 years old in Shunyi District of Beijing from 2017-2019. And the data were analyzed. Results A total of 12 716 occupational populations were included in this survey, and the prevalence rate of MS was 27.77% (standardized rate was 25.95%). Among them, 5 510 were males(43.33%) and the prevalence rate was 32.29% (standardized rate was 31.21%) , 7 206 were females(56.67%), and the prevalence rate was 24.31%(standardized rate was 21.92%). Among all occupational groups, professional and technical personnel had the highest standardized prevalence rate(32.00%), and administrative staff had the lowest(22.76%). The prevalence of all age groups, the 35-<60 age group, men were significantly higher than women (P <0.01), the 70-75 age group, women were significantly higher than men(P<0.01), the prevalence rate increased with age(P<0.01). The prevalence of overweight or obesity, hyperglycemia ,hypertension and dyslipidemia of the four indicators of MS were 63.37% , 21.66% ,54.00% and 37.82%. Males were significantly higher than females(all P<0.01), and the rate increased with age(P<0.01). The 35-<60-year-old age group mainly manifested as overweight or obesity. As the age increases, the 60-75-year-old age group became primarily manifested as hypertension. Overweight or obesity always existed in all age groups. Older age, male, junior high school education and below, history of kidney or ureteral stone disease, smoking, secondhand smoke in office for ≥4 days per week, and alcohol consumption were the risk factors for MS(all P<0.05). Conclusion The prevalence of MS is high in Shunyi District of Beijing, mainly manifested as overweight, obesity, hypertension, and a trend of younger men. Intervention should be focused on men, low-educated, smoking, drinking, and people with a history of stone diseases. Reasonable workplace exercise interventions should be provided for the "sedentary mode" office population
