Correlation between professional identity and decent work perception among intern nursing students

Abstract: Objective To investigate the current situation of professional identity and decent work perception of intern nursing students,analyze the factors influencing the professional identity of nursing students. Methods A convenience sampling method was used to select 210 undergraduate intern nursing students from agrade-A tertiary hospital in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as the study population from July 2020 to October 2021,and they were surveyed using the general information questionnaire,decent work perception scale(DWPS),and professional identity questionnaire for nurse students(PIQNS). Results A total of 198 nursing students completed the questionnaire survey. The total mean score of PIQNS was (52.21±8.44) points and the total mean score of DWPS was (55.69±8.95)points. There was an overall positive correlation between professional identity and decent work perception in intern nursing students(r=0.527,P<0.05). The gender,education,attitude toward the profession and decent work perception were the influencing factors of professional identity in intern nursing students(all P<0.05). Conclusions The professional identity and decent work perceptions of intern nursing students in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region are at a moderate level,and the professional identity is positively correlated with the decent work perceptions. The gender,education,attitude toward the profession and decent work perception are the influencing factors of professional identity in intern nursing students. It is suggested that the clinical nursing managers should take measures to enhance the professional identity of male and undergraduate nursing students,improve their attitudes towards the profession and their perception of decent work,thereby improving the nursing willingness of interns and stabilizing the clinical nursing team.
