Analysis on current situation and influencing factors of male nurses' sense of professional respect

Abstract: Objective To understand the current situation of sense of professional respect among male nurses in grade-A tertiary hospitals of Guizhou City,and analyze its influencing factors. Methods From August to November 2022,male nurses working in five grade-A tertiary hospitals of Guizhou City were collected by the convenience sampling as the survey subjects. They were investigated by the general data scale,occupational respect scale,social support evaluation scale and emotional intelligence scale. Results The male nursesingrade-A tertiary hospitals of Guizhou City had a low sense of professional respect. The total score of professional respect for 222 male nurses was (88.21±11.32)points,the score of professional self-awareness was (10.26±4.12)points,the score of professional ability was (39.47±2.49)points,the score of social trust and respect was (8.69±3.11)points,the score of organizational respect and recognition was (16.12±1.65)points,and the score of professional prestige and future value was (13.67±1.24)points. The multiple linear regression analysis showed that professional title,monthly income,social support,and emotional intelligence were the main factors affecting male nurses' sense of professional respect(all P<0.05). The emotional intelligence was positively correlated with the professional respect of male nurses(P<0.05),and social support was positively correlated with the professional respect of male nurses(P<0.05). Conclusion The professional respect level of male nurses ingrade-A tertiary hospitals of Guizhou City is low. The low professional title,low monthly income,low social support level,and low emotional intelligence level of male nurses are the influencing factors of their low professional respect. The managers should formulate corresponding strategies according to the professional respect level of male nurses and their influencing factors to adapt them to the role of nurses,in order to reduce the loss of nursing personnel.
