Mediation of psychological capital on challenge-hindrance stressor and work performance of full-time infection prevention and control practitioners

Abstract: Objective To understand the status quo of work performance of full-time infection prevention and control practitioners(IPCP),explore mediation of psychological capital on challenge-hindrance stressor and work performance of IPCP. Methods In November 2021,415 full-time IPCP in 112 hospitals of Anhui Province were selected by the convenience sampling method,they were investigated by the general situation questionnaire,challenge-hindrance stressor scale,psychological capital questionnaire and work performance scale,and the data were analyzed. Results The total scores of challenge stressor,hindrance stressor,psychological capital and work performance of 415 full-time IPCP were (22.65±4.58),(13.68±4.24),(103.71±15.60) and (45.01±6.16)points,respectively. The correlation analysis showed that challenge stressor was positively correlated with work performance and with psychological capital(r=0.302,0.293,both P<0.01),hindrance stressor was negatively correlated with work performance and with psychological capital(r=-0.247,-0.357,both P<0.01),and psychological capital was positively correlated with work performance(r=0.791,P<0.01). The psychological capital played a partial mediating effect between challenge stressor and work performance,and a complete mediating effect between hindrance stressor and work performance. Conclusions The psychological capital plays a mediating effect between challenge-hindrance stressor and work performance of full-time IPCP. Hospital managers should focus on the character of stressor,and actively improve the psychological capital level of full-time IPCP,so as to promote the improvement of work performance level.
