Abstract: Objective To explore the mediating effect of resourcefulness on perceived stress and depression among medical interns. Methods A total of 308 medical interns with an internship duration of at least one months from March 2024 to June 2024 were selected as the research objects by convenience sampling method. The survey was conducted using the general situation questionnaire, resourcefulness scale(RS),Chinese perceived stress scale(CPSS) and Beck depression inventory(BDI-Ⅱ). SPSS 25.0 statistical software and PROCESS 3.5 were used to analyze the relationship between the three, and to explore the mediating role of resourcefulness in the relationship between perceived stress and depression among medical interns. Results A total of 308 questionnaires were sent out,308 were recovered and 294 were valid, with an effective recovery rate of 95.45%. The scores of perceived stress, resourcefulness and depression were (20.60±10.59),(84.06±20.35) and (19.88±8.96)points,respectively. Resourcefulness was negatively correlated with perceived stress and depression scores(r=-0.403,-0.492,both P<0.01),and perceived stress was positively correlated with depression(r=0.518,P<0.01). In this study, hierarchical multiple regression was applied to analyze the effects of perceived stress and resourcefulness on depression, and Bootstrap method was used to further verify that resourcefulness played a partial mediating role between perceived stress and depression, and the mediating effect accounted for 26.25% of the total effect. Conclusion Resourcefulness is the mediating variable between perceived stress and depression of medical interns, and resourcefulness plays a partial mediating role between perceived stress and depression.
