Mediating role of career success in relationship between occupational identity and job burnout among anesthesiologists

Abstract: Objective To investigate the current status of career success,occupational identity,and job burnout among anesthesiologists in five grade-A tertiary hospitals in Jiangxi Province,explore the mediating effect of career success between occupational identity and job burnout. Methods From January 1st,2024 to June 30th,2024,a questionnaire survey was performed among 129 anesthesiologists in five grade-A tertiary hospitals in Jiangxi Province by the career success scale,occupational identity scale and job burnout scale,and the data were analyzed. Results The job burnout score of 129 anesthesiologists was (63.50±15.00)points,the career success score was (32.59±5.59)points,and the occupational identity score was (86.68±13.31)points. The indirect effect of occupational identity on job burnout was -0.202,accounting for 19.76% of the total effect. Conclusion The career success of anesthesiologists plays a partial mediating role between occupational identity and job burnout,the medical managers should pay attention to this mediating effect,actively guide anesthesiologists to establish a correct view of career development,promote their career success,thereby indirectly affecting occupational identity and reducing the incidence of job burnout.
