Abstract: The adolescent depression has long been in the spotlight as a serious mental health problem. In recent years, researchers have begun to explore the effects of diet on adolescent depression. This paper systematically examines the relationship between nutrients, dietary patterns and dietary behaviors and depression in adolescents through a retrospective analysis of previous national and international literature. It was found that diet plays an important role in the onset and development of adolescent depression, such that timely supplementation of certain key nutrients can better regulate depressive mood, while unbalanced dietary patterns and poor dietary behaviors may increase adolescents' risk of developing depression, all of which point to the immense potential value of preventing and intervening in adolescent depression at the dietary level. This study not only provides new perspectives for understanding the aetiology of adolescent depression, but also provides theoretical support and practical guidance for developing targeted dietary interventions to prevent and ameliorate adolescent depression.
