Research progress on professional calling for nurses in China

Abstract: The professional calling is a strong and meaningful passion and power that an individual feels towards a certain profession,which is an altruistic organizational citizenship behavior and a positive personal psychological resource. High-level professional calling can enhance nurses' professional identity,job engagement,and job satisfaction,reduce their job burnout and turnover intention,and is of great significance in promoting the improvement of nursing quality and the stability of the nursing team. This article provides an overview of the origin and development of professional calling,evaluation tools,the current status,influencing factors,and outcomes of nurse professional calling in China,as well as intervention strategies for improving nurse professional calling. The aim is to provide reference and guidance for hospital nursing managers and educators to conduct relevant research and develop effective strategies to enhance the level of nurse professional calling.
