Study on relationship between clinical learning environment,patient safety attitude and professionalism of nursing students

Abstract: Objective To understand the status of patient safety attitude and professionalism,and clinical learning environment of nursing interns in grade-A tertiary hospital,explore their relationship,and provide scientific suggestions to enhance the patient safety attitude and professionalism of nursing students. Methods From May to July 2023,a survey was conducted on 402 intern nursing students from five grade-A tertiary hospitals in Chongqing,Sichuan Province,Guizhou Province,and Yunnan Province using the Chinese version of the intern' patient safety attitude and professional literacy questionnaire and the clinical learning environment assessment scale,and the data were analyzed. Results The score of patient safety attitude and professionalism among 402 intern nursing students from five grade-A tertiary hospitals in Chongqing,Sichuan Province,Guizhou Province,and Yunnan Province was (135.81±18.92)points,and the total score of clinical learning environment was (162.84±28.28)points. There were statistically significant differences in the scores of patient safety attitude among nursing students at different age,cultivating categories and practice duration(all P<0.05). The score of safety attitude and professionalism of nursing interns who participated in patient safety training was significantly higher than that of those who did not(P<0.05). The clinical learning environment was significantly correlated with all dimension of patient safety attitude and professionalism(r=0.219-0.800,all P<0.05). The participation in patient safety training,supervisory relationship and the role of teaching supervisor in the department were important factors affecting patient safety attitude and professionalism(β=0.201-0.302,all P<0.05). Conclusion The patient safety attitude and professionalism of nurse interns are at a high level,and patient safety education,good teacher-student relationship and scientific teaching organization are conducive to the establishment of patient safety awareness and the improvement of professionalism of nurse interns.
