Results The total score of quality of life for the left-behind primary and secondary school students in Xinjiang's agricultural and pastoral areas was (128.42±16.15)points,and the score of male students was higher than that of female students, with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).There were statistically significant differences in the four dimensions of quality of life and total score of quality of life among left-behind primary and secondary school students in different grades, whether or not they live in school, academic performance, number of friends, mode of rearing, and frequency of contact with parents(all P<0.01). The parenting style, academic performance, number of friends, grade level, number of contacts with parents, family income, and gender, etc. all played a role in influencing the total scores of quality of life of left-behind primary and secondary school students(all P<0.01). Democratic rearing style, good academic performance,a large number of friends, primary school students, frequent contact with parents, high family income, male students and left-behind primary and secondary school students whose fathers were out of the house had a good quality of life. Conclusion The quality of life of left-behind primary and secondary school students in Xinjiang's agricultural and pastoral areas is poor, and improving parent-child relationship, changing parenting style, and home-school contact education are important ways to improve the quality of life of left-behind primary and secondary school students.
