Abstract:

Objective To investigate the job satisfaction of rural-oriented medical graduates in Henan Province after their grassroots service post-training,analyzing the influencing factors to inform future policy-making. Methods A stratified cluster random sampling method was employed to select rural-oriented medical students enrolled between 2010 and 2012 at three universities in Henan Province(Xinxiang Medical University,Henan University of Science and Technology and Zhengzhou University) as the study subjects. The Minnesota satisfaction questionnaire-short form(MSQ-SF) was used to assess job satisfaction, followed by data analysis. Results The overall job satisfaction score of the general practice oriented students in three universities in Henan Province was (2.95±0.84)points,with intrinsic and extrinsic satisfaction scores of (3.06±0.88)points and (2.74±0.88)points,respectively. Statistically significant differences were observed in job satisfaction scores across three dimensions(overall, intrinsic, and extrinsic) regarding grade, staffing status, five insurances and one fund(social security),income level, and attitudes toward general practice(all P<0.05). Furthermore,a statistically significant difference in extrinsic job satisfaction was found among students working in different departments(P<0.05). The results of multiple linear regression analysis indicated that income and attitudes toward general practice were influencing factors for both overall and intrinsic job satisfaction(all P<0.05),social security, income level, and attitudes toward general practice were identified as influencing factors for extrinsic job satisfaction among rural-oriented medical graduates(all P<0.05). Conclusion The job satisfaction scores of the first three cohorts of general practice oriented students in Henan Province for grassroots services are not high in all dimensions and need further improvement. It is recommended to enhance the job satisfaction of these general practice oriented students by improving compensation packages and strengthening talent development pathways.
