Abstract: Objective To systematically evaluate the association between overtime work and low back pain in Chinese occupational population. Methods The literatures about overtime and low back pain were searched using combined key words("low back pain" or "musculoskeletal disorder") and ("longworking hours" or "overtime") in CNKI,Wanfang,VIP and CBM databases, and combined key words(low back pain OR musculoskeletal disorder) AND (long working hour OR overtime) AND (China OR Chinese) in Pubmed. The search period was from the establishment of the database until June 30,2023,and the search was not limited to any language. Meta analysis was performed using Stata l4.0. Results A total of 27 articles with a total sample size of 75 129 participants were included. The heterogeneity testing showed that I2=69.1%,Q test P=0.000,showing heterogeneity in literature, therefore,a random effect model was selected in the meta analysis. The combined OR(95%CI) was 1.58(1.41-1.77),P<0.01. The Egger's test indicated t=4.25,P<0.01,with publication bias. The combined OR(95%CI) value after correction using the pruning method was 1.32(1.19-1.47). Conclusion The overtime work can increase the risk of low back pain of workers,so working hours should be controlled to reduce the prevalence of low back pain.
