Mediating effect of psychological resilience on work pressure and job burnout of project managers in 13 national project manager online community

Abstract: Objective To understand the relationship between work pressure,psychologicalresilience and job burnout of project managers. Methods From February to March 2022,221 project managers were selected from 13 national project managers online communities,a questionnaire investigation was performed by the job stress scale,Connor-Davidsonresilience scale(CD-RISC) and Chinese Maslach burnout inventory(CMBI),and the data were analyzed. Results The score of work pressure,psychological resilience and job burnout of project managers was (70.13±18.56),(66.23±13.84) and (33.01±15.57)points,respectively.The psychological resilience was negatively correlated with the dimensions of role stress,interpersonal relationship,career development,organizational mechanism and style and work-family conflicts in job stress(all P<0.01),and negatively correlated with emotional exhaustion,alienation and low sense of job efficacy(all P<0.01). The psychological resilience had a partial mediating effect between work pressure and job burnout,accounting for 16.83% of the total effect. Conclusions The work pressureof project managersis capable of exerting a direct effect on job burnout and also reducing the degree of job burnout caused by work pressure through the mediating effect of psychological resilience. The organization can give more attention and support to project managers,and the project managers can improve their own professional competent as well leadership,so as to improve their resilience and reduce the occurrence of job burnout.
