Investigation on status of health literacy of medical students in higher vocational colleges in Yancheng City

Abstract: Objective To understand the health literacy level of medical students of higher vocational colleges in Yancheng City,discuss the influencing factors of health literacy of medical students in higher vocational colleges,and provide the basis of making the key points and strategies about health education for them. Methods The questionnaire was designed in the basis of the Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire for Chinese Residentscompiled by the National Health Commission in 2020,including three dimensions and six categories of questions. A questionnaire survey was conducted among 1 171 students from a higher vocational medical college in Yancheng City. Results The total score of health literacy among medical students in a higher vocational college in Yancheng City was (53.17±12.85)points,with the possession rate of 41.25%. Among them,the possession rate of health literacy of preventive medicine and medical inspection technologywas 49.85% and 29.16% respectively,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). The possession rate of basic knowledge and ideas,healthy lifestyle and and behavior,and basic skills of health literacy were 43.98%,46.37% and 49.53%,respectively,and the differenceswere statistically significant(all P<0.05). Conclusion The medical education in schools can improve health literacy,but there is imbalance between different majors,and the schools can strengthen health literacy general education and improve the health literacy level of all medical students.
