Abstract:

Objective To understand the status of role overload pressure, psychological resilience and occupational burnout of geriatric nurses, explore the relationship between the three, and provide reference for reducing occupational burnout among geriatric nurses. Methods From January to February 2025,a random sampling method(random number table method) was used to select 179 geriatric nurses from six grade-A tertiary comprehensive hospital in Wuhan City as the survey subjects. The role overload stress scale, psychological resilience scale and occupational burnout scale were used for the survey, and the data were analyzed. Results The score for the role overload pressure of geriatric nurses was (19.25±4.15)points,the score for psychological resilience was (94.46±18.34)points,and the score for occupational burnout was (61.52±12.38)points. There were statistically significant differences in the role overload pressure among geriatric nurses with different age, working hours in geriatrics, technical titles, monthly salaries, average number of night shifts per month, and marital status(all P<0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the psychological resilience among geriatric nurses with different age, working hours in geriatrics, technical titles, monthly salaries, andaverage number of night shifts per month(all P<0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the occupational burnout among geriatric nurses with different age, working hours in geriatrics, technical titles, monthly salaries, and average number of night shifts per month(all P<0.05). The role overload pressure of geriatric nurses was positively correlated with occupational burnout(r=0.518,P<0.01),while psychological resilience was negatively correlated with occupational burnout(r=-0.486,P<0.01).The role overload pressure was negatively correlated with psychological resilience(r=-0.526,P<0.01).The role overload pressure and psychological resilience jointly explained 32.30% of the variation in occupational burnout among geriatric nurses. The psychological resilience partially mediated the relationship between role overload stress and occupational burnout, with a mediation effect value of 0.248,accounting for 42.11% of the total effect. Conclusions The occupational burnout of 179 geriatric nurses is at a high level, and role overload pressure and psychological resilience are important variables that affect occupational burnout. The psychological resilience can alleviate the impact of role overload pressure on occupational burnout among geriatric nurses. On the basis of reducing role overload pressure, improving psychological resilience can help reduce occupational burnout level.
