Abstract:

Objective To investigate the current status of psychological abuse and adverse childhood experiences among rural older adults in Hebei Province and analyze the correlation between psychological abuse and adverse childhood experiences of rural older adults. Methods From August to October 2024,a survey was conducted on 352 rural older adults in Hebei Province by a general information questionnaire, adverse childhood experiences scale(ACES),and family psychological abuse assessment scale, and the data were analyzed. Results Among 352 rural older adults, the total score of psychological abuse was (30.43±7.10)points.Correlation analysis showed that the ACES of rural older adults was positively correlated with psychological abuse(r=0.527,P<0.01). Marital status, disability status, number of chronic diseases, number of medicine use, life satisfaction, social frequency and adverse childhood experiences were all the main influencing factors of psychological abuse among rural older adults(all P<0.05). Conclusion The degree of psychological abuse experienced by elderly residents in rural Hebei Province was closely related to their childhood adverse experiences. In the future, community health workers could develop targeted intervention plans for rural elderly individuals by leveraging differentiated demographic characteristic and their adverse childhood experiences to minimize the impact of childhood adverse experiences and the risk of psychological abuse among rural elderly.
