Abstract:

Objective To identify the source of infection and analyze the mode of transmission through the investigation and analysis of a family cluster epidemic of pertussis in Hedong District of Tianjin,so as to provide evidence for the prevention and control of pertussis. Methods Descriptive methods were used to analyze the epidemiological investigation data, nasopharyngeal swabs and serum samples of cases and close contacts, and immunization history of this epidemic. Results The family cluster outbreak lasted for 36 days from October 15 to November 5,2023,contained 2 cases of pertussis, all of which were laboratory-confirmed cases. The source of infection was children and the mode of transmission was from children to adults. Three close contacts were monitored, one of whom was diagnosed with pertussis, and the second-generation incidence rate was 33.33%. Conclusion Atypical clinical symptoms of pertussis cases may affect the diagnosis of pertussis in medical institutions and delay the prevention and control of pertussis epidemic. It is recommended to strengthen the diagnostic capacity of medical staff for atypical pertussis cases and improve the sensitivity of surveillance reports. Health education for key populations should be done well to explore better immunization strategies for vaccines containing pertussis components to prevent outbreaks of pertussis.
