Abstract: Objective To explore the mediating role of life satisfaction between e-health literacy and quality of life of elderly people in elderly care institutions, provide theoretical basis for improving the quality of life of elderly people in elderly care institutions. Methods Using the convenience sampling method,213 elderly people from 10 elderly care institutions in Baicheng City of Jilin Province were selected as the research subjects from June to August 2023. A survey was conducted using a general situation questionnaire,eHealth literacy scale(eHEALS),satisfaction with life scale(SWLS),and Chinese version of 36-item short from health survey(SF-36) to investigate the current status of eHealth literacy, life satisfaction, and quality of life of elderly people in elderly care institutions. Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between eHealth literacy, life satisfaction, and quality of life of elderly people in elderly care institutions. Mplus 8.3 software was used to establish a structural equation model and analyze the mediating effect of life satisfaction between eHealth literacy and quality of life of elderly people in elderly care institutions. Results The total score of eHealth literacy among 213 elderly people in elderly care institutions was (29.14±7.08)points, the score of life satisfaction scale was (27.39±5.12)points,and the Chinese version of SF-36 scored (47.57±8.19)points. The correlation analysis results showed that the eHealth literacy of elderly people in elderly care institutions was positively correlated with life satisfaction(r=0.524,P<0.01),and life satisfaction was also positively correlated with quality of life(r=0.412,P<0.01). The life satisfaction of elderly people in elderly care institutions plays a mediating role between eHealth literacy and quality of life, with the mediating effect accounting for 71% of the total effect. Conclusion The quality of life of elderly people in elderly care institutions is at a relatively low level, and improving the eHealth literacy level of elderly people in elderly care institutions can enhance their satisfaction with life, thereby improving their quality of life.
