Mediating effect of professional attitude between humble leadership and quality of work life among medical staff in intensive care unit of 9 tertiary general hospitals in Sichuan Province

Abstract: Objective To investigate the status quo of humble leadership,professional attitude and quality of work life of medical staff in intensive care unit of tertiary general hospitals in Sichuan Province,explore the mediating role of professional attitude between humble leadership and quality of work life of nurses,and provide a basis for developing targeted intervention measures. Methods From January to March 2024,a questionnaire survey was conducted on 420 medical workers from nine tertiary general hospitals in Sichuan Province by using general information questionnaire,humble leadership scale,professional attitude scale and quality of work and life scale,to construct and verify the mediating role of professional attitude. Results The score of quality of work life among medical staff in intensive care unit of Sichuan Province was (114.92±20.10)points,the score of humble leadership was (33.73±9.53)points,and the score of professional attitude was (131.10±20.32)points. The results of single factor analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences in the score of quality of work life among medical staff in critical care medicine with different age,whether they had obtained specialist qualification certificate,educational level and personal monthly income(all P<0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the scores of humble leadership among medical staff in the department of critical care medicine with different age,whether they had obtained specialist qualifications,and average monthly income(all P<0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the scores of professional attitude of medical staff in critical care medicine with different age,whether they had obtained specialist qualification certificate,educational level and personal monthly income(all P<0.05). The correlation analysis showed that the total score of humble leadership of medical staff in intensive care unit of Sichuan Province was positively correlated with professional attitude and quality of work life(r=0.683,0.813,both P<0.01). The total score of professional attitude was positively correlated with the quality of work life(r=0.654,P<0.01). The results of mediating effect analysis showed that the mediating effect of professional attitude between humble leadership and quality of work life of medical staff in intensive care unit was 0.236,accounting for 34.5% of the total effect. Conclusions The quality of work life of medical staff in nine intensive care units in Sichuan Province is above the average level,which needs to be further improved. The mediating effect of professional attitude between nurses' humble leadership and quality of work life is significant. The managers can further promote nurses' professional attitude by improving the level of humble leadership,so as to obtain higher quality of work life,and then actively participate in work.
