Abstract: Objective To analyze the impact of bidirectional intergenerational support on the quality of life of elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD). Methods Using the convenience sampling method,201 elderly COPD patients hospitalized in the department of respiratory medicine of a grade-A tertiary hospital in Weifang City from July to October 2021 were selected as the research subjects. The general data questionnaire,parent-child support questionnaire and Euro qol five dimension scale(EQ-5D) were used for the investigation, and the data were analyzed. Results The health utility value of elderly COPD patients was 0.81,with the most prominent problems of daily activity ability and self-care ability among the five dimensions. There was correlation between quality of life and bidirectional intergenerational support. In upward intergenerational support, the economic support was positively correlated with health utility value(P<0.05),and the life care was negatively correlated with health utility value(P<0.05). In downward intergenerational support, the economic support was negatively correlated with health utility value(P<0.05),while the life care and emotional solace were positively correlated with health utility value(both P<0.05). The age, marital status and other chronic diseases had effects on quality of life(all P<0.05). The economic support and life care entered the regression equation(both P<0.05). Conclusions The health utility value of 201 elderly inpatients with COPD in a grade-A tertiary hospital of Weifang City is low,and good bidirectional intergenerational support can improve the quality of life in elderly patients with COPD. The medical staff should take measures to improve patients' self-efficacy and encourage family members of elderly COPD patients to provide support and assistance.
