Mental health status of traffic policemen in Meishan City and its relationship with personality

Abstract: Objective To understand the mental health status of traffic policemen in Meishan City and its relationship with personality,provide reference basis for improving the psychological health of traffic policemen. Methods From January to February 2021,327 traffic policemen in Meishan City were investigated by using symptom checklist 90(SCL-90) and Chinese version of Eysenck personality questionnaire(EPQ-RSC),and the data were analyzed. Results The total score of SCL-90 and scores of all factors(except terror and paranoia) in 327 traffic policemen were higher than the national norms(all P<0.05). Except for the terror factor,there were statistically significant differences in the total score of SCL-90 and scores of other eight factors among different age groups(all P<0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the total score of SCL-90 and scores of nine factors among traffic policemen in different education level and working years(all P<0.05). Except for the terror and paranoia factors,the total score of SCL-90 and scores of nine factors in unmarried traffic policemen were lower than those in married group(all P<0.05). The total score of SCL-90 and scores of nine factors in traffic policemen were positively correlated with psychosis and neuroticism(all P<0.05),and negatively correlated with introversion and extroversion(all P<0.05). The neuroticism had positive predict effect on total score of SCL-90 and scores of all factors(all P<0.05). The introversion and extroversion had negative predict effect on total score and scores of interpersonal sensitivity,depression,anxiety,terror and psychosis factors(all P<0.05). The psychosis had positive predict effect on terror factors(P<0.05). Conclusion The mental health level of traffic policemen in Meishan City is low,and it is necessary to provide psychological support for traffic police through multiple channels.
