Abstract: Objective To carry out a bibliometric analysis of the research status and development direction of sleep disorders in the elderly at home and abroad, provide references for future researches on effectively improving sleep disorders in the elderly. Methods Using bibliometrics and CiteSpace software, taking CNKI and Web of Science core database as data sources, this paper made a visual analysis on the annual publication volume, country, institution, author, keywords and other contents of Chinese and English literature related to sleep disorders of the elderly from January 2012 to May 2022. Results Excluding incomplete inclusion in 2022,the number of articles about sleep disorders in the elderly showed an obvious upward trend from 2012 to 2022,with a total of 1 541 articles in Chinese and 743 articles in English. The United States is the country with the largest number of articles. In terms of cooperation between institutions and authors, domestic cooperation is looser than international cooperation. The investigation of psychological problems such as insomnia, depression and anxiety related to sleep disorders and related risk factors is a common research hotspot in the field of sleep disorders of the elderly at home and abroad. Conclusions In the past 10 years, the research on sleep disorders of the elderly has been on the increase, and the research on sleep disorders and cognitive function of the elderly has been a hot spot and trend at home and abroad in the past two years. In the future, the sleep problems of the elderly with cognitive disorders can be further studied and discussed. At the same time,it is necessary to pay attention to strengthening the communication between authors and cooperation among institutions to expand the depth and breadth of research.
