Abstract: Objective To investigate the current situation of knowledge, attitude and practice of hospice care among medical student volunteers in colleges in Hainan Province, analyze its influencing factors. Methods A convenience sampling method was adopted to conduct a questionnaire survey to investigate 750 medical student volunteers from two medical colleges in Hainan Province from May to June 2022,and the data were analyzed. The questionnaire was divided into three dimensions:knowledge, attitude, and behavior, with a total of 35 items. Results The total score of knowledge, attitude and practice of hospice care among medical student volunteers was(92.53±13.07)points,and the scoring rate was 66.57%. The results of univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences in the total score of knowledge, attitude and practice of hospice care among medical student volunteers of different age, major, grade, taking care of dying patients and relatives, and obtaining the hospice care knowledge from specialized training or not(all P<0.05).The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed thatgrade, major, taking care of dying patients and relatives are the influencing factors of the total score of knowledge, attitude and practice of hospice care of medical student volunteers(all P<0.05). Conclusions The score of knowledge, attitude and practice of hospice care of medical student volunteers in Hainan Province is at a mid to low level, and the score of attitude is higher than that of knowledge and behavior. The medical student volunteers who are seniors, nursing majors, and have taken care of terminally ill patients or relatives gain a higher level of knowledge, belief, and practice of hospice care. The managers of medical colleges and hospice care organizations should pay attention to the hospice volunteer service training of medical student volunteers, especially which is in junior grades and non-nursing majors,at the same time, strengthen their knowledge and behavior toward hospice care, and so as to further promote hospice care development of volunteer services.
