Mediating effect of psychological crisis between crisis vulnerability and sense of life meaning in undergraduate nursing students

Abstract: Objective To understand the status of psychological crisis,crisis vulnerability and sense of life meaning among undergraduate nursing students in a traditional Chinese medicine college of Yunnan Province,explore their relationship,provide scientific basis for promoting the mental health of nursing students. Methods Using the psychological crisis questionnaire,crisis vulnerability questionnaire and sense of life meaning scale,a questionnaire survey was conducted on 330 undergraduate nursing students in the Yunnan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in October 2021. Results The score of crisis vulnerability in undergraduate nursing students surveyed was (25.48±4.41)points,the score of sense of life meaning was (48.6±8.07)points,and the score of psychological crisis was(17.22±2.54)points.There were statistically significant differences in the score of crisis vulnerability among undergraduate nursing students who identify with their majors or not and have different family relationships(all P<0.05).There were statistically significant differences in the score of sense of life meaning among undergraduate nursing students who are recognized as a poverty-stricken student or not,identify with their majors or not and have different family relationships(all P<0.05).There were statistically significant differences in the score of psychological crisis among undergraduate nursing students who have different types of registered residence,identify with their majors or not and have different family relationships(all P<0.01).The psychological crisis of undergraduate nursing students was positively correlated with the crisis vulnerability(r=0.246,P<0.05),and negatively correlated with sense of life meaning(r=-0.456,P<0.05),while the crisis vulnerability was negatively correlated with sense of life meaning(r=-0.275,P<0.05).The mediating effect test showed that crisis vulnerability can not only directly predict the sense of life meaning,but also predict the sense of meaning of life through the mediation of psychological crisis,the direct effect value was 0.54 and the mediating effect value was 0.20,accounting for 72.68% and 27.32% of the total effect respectively. Conclusion There is a certain correlation between psychological crisis,crisis vulnerability,and sense of life meaning among undergraduate nursing students in a traditional Chinese medicine college of Yunnan Province,and the psychological crisis plays a moderating mesomeric effect between crisis vulnerability and sense of life meaning.
