Abstract: Objective To investigate the current situation of occupational coping self-efficacy and patient safety attitude among intensive care unit nurses, and to analyze the influence of occupational coping self-efficacy on patient safety attitude. Methods Cluster sampling was used to select intensive care unit nurses from five grade-A tertiary comprehensive hospitals in Yancheng City from April to June 2023 as the survey subjects. General information questionnaire, occupational coping self-efficacy scale, and patient safety attitude scale were used to conduct the survey, and the data were analyzed. Results The total score of occupational coping self-efficacy of 196 intensive care unit nurses was (28.22±6.06)points,with an average score of (3.14±0.67) points. The total score of patient safety attitude was (113.89±15.84)points,with an average score of (3.67±0.51)points. Comparison of occupational coping self-efficacy and patient safety attitude scores among intensive care unit nurses with different household registration types, education backgrounds, labor relationship, professional titles, average monthly night shifts, and whether they had participated in safety education within six months showed statistically significant differences(all P<0.05). The total occupational coping self-efficacy score and each dimension score of intensive care unit nurses were positively correlated with the total patient safety attitude score and each dimension score(r=0.481-0.850,all P<0.01). After controlling for the effects of general demographic variables on patient safety attitude, occupational coping self-efficacy independently explained 29.3% of the variance in patient safety attitude. Conclusion The occupational coping self-efficacy of intensive care unit nurses is at a moderate to low level, and the patient safety attitude is at a moderate to high level. The occupational coping self-efficacy has a significant positive effect on the patient safety attitudes, which could be further strengthened by improving occupational coping self-efficacy.
