Abstract: Objective To investigate the current status of clinical nurses' professional self-concept,and to analyze the potential profile of clinical nurses' professional self-concept and its relationship with professional quality of life. Methods An electronic questionnaire was conducted on 585 clinical nurses in general hospitals above the second level in Henan Province during April to May 2023 using the general information questionnaire, nurses' self-concept questionnaire, and professional quality of life scale, and the data were analyzed. Results The total professional self-concept score of 585 clinical nurses was (237.24±36.21)points,compassionate satisfaction in professional quality of life was (38.68±6.80)points,job burnout was (24.79±6.22)points,and secondary trauma was (27.98±7.26)points. The self-concept of clinical nurses could be categorized into 2 potential profiles:"low professional self-concept type"(37%) and "high professional self-concept type"(63%). The influencing factors of professional self-concept included clinical work hours, title, marital status, mode of employment, compassionate satisfaction, job burnout, and secondary trauma(all P<0.05). Conclusion The professional self-concept of clinical nurses in comprehensive hospitals at or above the second level in Henan Province is at a medium to high level, and nurses' self-concept can be categorized into 2 categories. Clinical nurses with different demographic characteristics have different potential profiles of professional self-concept,and the three dimensions of professional quality of life influence the categorization of profiles of professional self-concept. Nursing administrators should develop targeted intervention programs based on the characteristics of populations with different profiles, thereby increasing nurses' professional self-concept.
