Abstract: Objective To obtain the prevalence of scoliosis among primary and secondary school students in China from 2018- 2023 by meta-analysis,and to provide reference for the prevention and treatment of scoliosis in primary and secondary school students. Methods A cross-sectional surveys on the prevalence of scoliosis in primary and secondary school students in China was conducted on databases such as China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),Wanfang,VIP,China Biology Medicine disc(CBM),Web of Science,PubMed and other domestic and foreign databases. The search period was from March 2018 to March 2023. The literature was screened, inclusion and exclusion criteria were developed, the prevalence of scoliosis among primary and secondary school students was measured using a random effects model in R software, and the sources of heterogeneity were explored through subgroup analysis of region,gender,urban-rural and school section. The robustness of the results was tested using sensitivity analysis, and publication bias was examined using funnel plots,Begg's rank correlation test and Egger regression methods. Results The study ultimately included 22 literature articles with a sample size of 1 244 271 cases and 59 593 positive cases of scoliosis. Meta-analysis showed that the prevalence of scoliosis in primary and secondary school students in China was 4.41%,with 95%CI ranging from 2.59% to 7.41%. Subgroup analysis showed that there was no statistically significant difference in the prevalence rate of scoliosis among primary and secondary school students in different regions, genders, urban and rural areas and school stages(all P>0.05). Conclusion The current rate of scoliosis in primary and secondary school students is higher than the average level in previous years, and the meta-analysis results are relatively reliable. All relevant parties should take active actions to prevent the occurrence of scoliosis in primary and secondary school students,to achieve prevention-oriented,early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment.
