Abstract: Objective To investigate the chronic toxicity and carcinogenicity of carbofuran in SD rats, analyze its mechanism of action and potential hazards. Methods Totally 240 SPF-grade SD rats were randomly divided into a control(standard diet) group and low, medium and high dose group according to body mass. The female animals were exposed to doses of 0.19,0.76,and 3.18 mg/(kg·d),respectively,and the male animals were exposed to doses of 0.04,0.15,and 0.64 mg/(kg·d),respectively. There were 120 rats in each group, with half male and half female. A combined chronic toxicity and carcinogenesis experiment was conducted on rats using a feeding method for 104 weeks. The body mass of the rats was weighed, blood routine, blood biochemistry and histopathology were performed, and the tumor incidence and animal mortality rates were calculated. Results Compared with the control group, the mortality rate of animals in the medium and high dose groups increased, and there was a decrease in body mass from week 3 to week 85. The average platelet volume and average platelet distribution width increased, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05). Compared with the control group, there was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of tumors and multiple tumors among the different doses of carbofuran in rats(all P>0.05). Conclusion Under the conditions of the present study's dosing dose,no obvious toxic effects on target organs and carcinogenicity were found.
