Abstract: Objective To understand the relationship between college students' future work self, learning engagement, career exploration and career calling, and analyze the mediating and moderating roles of career exploration and career calling between college students' future work self and learning engagement,in order to enhance their career development potential and learning outcomes. Methods From April to July 2023,996 college students from six colleges and universities in Shaanxi Province were selected as survey subjects through random sampling method, and online questionnaire surveys were conducted by using the learning engagement scale, the future work self scale, the career exploration scale, and the sense of career calling scale. The statistical analysis was performed by SPSS 26.0. Results The future work self score of 996 college students in Shaanxi Province was (4.72±1.16)points,the learning engagement score was (4.41±0.98)points,the career exploration score was (3.60±0.69)points,and the career calling score was (3.80±0.62)points. The future work self was positively correlated with learning engagement, career exploration, and career calling(r=0.503,0.373,0.416,all P<0.01).The mediating effect of career exploration accounted for 21.18% of the total effect, and sense of career calling negatively moderated the relationship between future work self and learning engagement(β=-0.086,P<0.05) and positively moderated the relationship between career exploration and learning engagement(β=0.244,P<0.05). Conclusions The future work self can directly and positively predict learning engagement and can also influence learning engagement through career exploration. The career calling not only moderates the direct relationship between future work self and learning engagement, but also moderates the relationship between career exploration and learning engagement.
