Abstract: Objective Taking six buried sewage treatment plants as research objects, the International Council on Mining and Metals(ICMM),composite index method, and Australian method were used to evaluate occupational health risks, and the evaluation results and applicability of the three methods were compared. Methods In 2022,six buried sewage treatment plants in Guangzhou were selected as evaluation sites, and the ICMM method, comprehensive index method, and Australian method were used to evaluate occupational health risks. The risk levels of the evaluation results were converted into risk ratios for comparison. Results The detection results of exposure to hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, chlorine gas, other dust, and silica dust in all positions of 6 buried sewage treatment plants met the national occupational exposure limit requirements. The evaluation results of the ICMM quantitative method showed that the occupational health risks of hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, and chlorine gas were tolerable risks, other dust were high risk, and silica dust was very high risk. The evaluation results of the ICMM matrix method showed that the occupational health risks of hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, chlorine gas,and other dust were very low, while silicon dust was low risk. The evaluation results of the comprehensive index method showed that the occupational health risks of hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, and chlorine gas were low risks, other dust was negligible risks, and silica dust was moderate risks. The evaluation results of Australian method showed that the occupational health risks of hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, chlorine gas,and silica dust were high, while other dust was significant. The consistency of the evaluation results obtained by the ICMM matrix method and the comprehensive index method was good(P>0.01),while the consistency of the evaluation results obtained by other risk assessment methods was poor(P<0.01). Conclusion There are significant differences in the risk assessment results of three evaluation methods applied to buried sewage treatment plants, and the comprehensive index method is more suitable for occupational health risk assessment in buried sewage treatment plants.
