Chain mediating role of adversity quotient and sense of life meaning in the perceived social support and flourishing among nurses in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals

Abstract: Objective To explore the chain mediating role of adversity quotient and sense of life meaning in the perceived social support and flourishing among nurses in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals,and to provide reference for improving the level of flourishing among nurses in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals. Methods From July to December 2023,656 nurses from 9 traditional Chinese medicine hospitals in Anhui Province were investigated by using self-made general information questionnaire,perceived social support scale,adversity response profile,China meaning in life questionnaire and the flourishing scale to construct and verify the mediation effect model. Results Nurses in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals scored (63.12±9.12)points in perceived social support,(130.58±18.07)points in adversity quotient,(47.23±6.48)points in sense of meaning in life,and (41.95±8.82)points in flourishing.The total score of flourishing among nurses in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals was positively correlated with perceived social support,adversity quotient and sense of life meaning(all P<0.05).The indirect effect of perceived social support on flourishing was established,and the total indirect effect was 0.302.The specific mediating effect of adversity quotient accounted for 24.8% of the total indirect effect,and the specific mediating effect of the sense of meaning in life accounted for 61.6% of the total indirect effects. The chain mediating effect of adversity quotient and sense of meaning in life on the perceived social support and flourishing among nurses in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals accounted for 13.6% of the total indirect effect. Conclusion The chain mediating effect between adversity quotient and sense of meaning in life is established in perceived social support and flourishing. Nursing managers in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals should increase their support for nurses,formulate relevant measures to improve their adversity quotient and sense of life meaning,and thereby improve their level of flourishing.
