Abstract:

Objective To study the correlation and mediating effect of workplace incivility, psychological capital and job burnout among nurses in the gastroenterology department. Methods A convenient sampling method was used to select 174 nurses from the gastroenterology departments of 12 general hospitals in Jiangsu Province from September to October 2024 as survey subjects. The workplace incivility scale, psychological capital scale and job burnout scale were used for investigation, and the data were analyzed. Results The scores of workplace rudeness, psychological capital and job burnout of nurses in the department of gastroenterology were (26.48±7.52),(92.42±16.28) and (60.79±12.34)points,respectively. The influencing factors of job burnout of nurses in the department of gastroenterology were age, years of work, professional title, average monthly income, marital status and average number of monthly shifts(all P<0.05). Job burnout of nurses in the department of gastroenterology was positively correlated with workplace rudeness(r=0.612,P<0.01),and negatively correlated with psychological capital(r=-0.585,P<0.01). Workplace rudeness was negatively correlated with psychological capital(r=-0.528,P<0.01). The mediation effect model found that psychological capital played a partial mediating effect between workplace rudeness and job burnout, with a mediation effect value of 0.272,accounting for 47.22% of the total effect. Conclusion The job burnout of gastroenterology nurses is positively correlated with workplace incivility, and negatively correlated with psychological capital. Psychological capital has a mediating effect between workplace incivility and job burnout. Reducing workplace incivility and improving the level of psychological capital of gastroenterology nurses can reduce their risk of job burnout.
