Abstract: Objective To develop a medical radiation protection knowledge-attitude-practice(KAP) scale for medical staff, and to test the reliability and validity of the scale. Methods Based on the theory of KAP,a scale item pool was initially formed by means of literature research, brainstorming, focus group discussion and interviews with medical radiation related personnel. The initial scale was formed through expert consultation and revision. Using pre survey data for item quality analysis to form a formal scale, and 376 medical staff were surveyed in August 2022 to test the reliability and validity of the scale. Results The medical radiation protection KAP scale for medical staff consisted of 27 items with 3 dimensions, with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 76.876%.The confirmatory factor analysis showed that all indicators of the model met the standards, and the overall model fitting effect was good. The average content validity index at the scale level was 0.936,and the average content validity index for knowledge, attitude, and practice dimensions were 0.933,0.944 and 0.931,respectively. The content validity index of the items range from 0.833 to 1.000.The Cronbach's α coefficient of the total scale was 0.957,the test-retest reliability was 0.835,and the split-half reliability was 0.845. The Cronbach's α coefficient for each dimension were 0.970,0.939,and 0.954,respectively. Conclusion The medical radiation protection KAP scale has good reliability and validity, which is suitable for the evaluation of medical radiation protection KAP level for medical staff in China.
