Correlation analysis of professional self-concept,self-directed learning ability,and nursing clinical decision-making ability among nursing interns

Abstract: Objective To explore the correlation between professional self-concept,self-directed learning ability and nursing clinical decision-making ability of nursing interns as well as the influencing factors of nursing clinical decision-making ability. Methods A convenience sampling method was used to select 450 nursing interns from a grade-A tertiary hospitals in Anhui Province in November 2022.A questionnaire survey was conducted using the general information questionnaire,professional self-concept of nurses instrument(PSCNI),self-directed learning scale(SDLS),and clinical decision making in nursing scale(CDMNS),and the data were analyzed. Results The professional self-concept score of 450 intern nursing students was (89.54 ± 11.59) points,the self-directed learning ability score was (102.76±21.24)points,and the nursing clinical decision-making score was (132.29±14.53)points. The professional self-concept,self-directed learning ability,and clinical decision-making ability of intern nursing students were positively correlated(r=0.634,0.475,both P<0.01). The status of only child(β=0.517),education level(β=0.218),professional self-concept(β=0.091),and self-directed learning ability level(β=0.080) among intern nursing students were the influencing factors of nursing clinical decision-making ability(all P<0.05),which can explain 45.20% of its score variation. Conclusion The professional self-concept,self-directed learning ability,and nursing clinical decision-making ability of nursing interns in a grade-A tertiary hospitals in Anhui Province are at a moderate level and need further improvement. Education level,only child status,professional self-concept,and self-directed learning ability are the main influencing factors on the nursing clinical decision-making ability of nursing interns. Nursing education and nursing managers should develop intervention measures to improve the self-concept and self-directed learning ability of nursing interns,thereby enhancing their nursing clinical decision-making ability. In addition,targeted intervention plans should also be developed based on the influencing factors of nursing clinical decision-making among nursing interns,in order to improve their nursing clinical decision-making ability.
