Abstract:

Objective To investigate the current status of workplace communication stress, psychological resilience, and job burnout among internal medicine nurses and analyze their influencing factors. To investigate the mediating role of psychological resilience in the relationship between workplace communication stress and job burnout among internal medicine nurses, thereby providing objective evidence for reducing the level of job burnout among internal medicine nurses and improving clinical nursing efficiency. Methods From January to May 2025,194 internal medicine nurses from eight grade-A tertiary general hospitals in Wuhan were randomly selected as the research subjects using a random number table. A questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the current status of workplace communication stress, psychological resilience, and job burnout, and to analyze their influencing factors. Stepwise regression was used to analyze the mediating role of psychological resilience in the relationship between workplace communication stress and job burnout among internal medicine nurses. Results The scores of workplace communication stress, psychological resilience and job burnout of internal medicine nurses were (29.36±5.12),(96.62±16.48) and (60.93±13.28)points,respectively. There were statistically significant differences in the scores of workplace communication stress, psychological resilience and job burnout among internal medicine nurses of different ages, total clinical nursing working hours, nursing professional title, average monthly salary, and average number of monthly night shifts(all P<0.05). Workplace communication stress was negatively correlated with psychological resilience(r=-0.577,P<0.01),and positively correlated with job burnout(r=612,P<0.01). Psychological resilience was negatively correlated with job burnout(r=-0.596,P<0.01). Psychological resilience partially mediated the effect of workplace communication stress on job burnout among internal medicine nurses, with an effect value of 0.282,accounting for 44.90% of the total effect. Conclusion The psychological resilience of internal medicine nurses plays a partial mediating role between workplace communication stress and job burnout. Nursing managers should pay attention to and improve the psychological resilience of internal medicine nurses, reduce their workplace communication stress and job burnout levels, and improve clinical nursing efficiency.
