Abstract:

Objective To develop a solvent desorption-gas chromatographic(GC) method for quantifying 1,2-dibromoethylene levels in workplace air. Methods 1,2-dibromoethylene was sampled using activated charcoal tubes and subsequently desorbed with an isopropanol-carbon disulfide mixture(V/V,1/49). Separation was achieved on a nitrobenzoic acid modified polyethylene glycol strongly polar column(DB-FFAP capillary column),followed by detection using a flame ionization detector(FID). Results The detection limit was 0.23 mg/L for 1,2-dibromoethylene. The concentration range of 1,2-dibromoethylene was 0.87-891.30 mg/L,and the calibration curve was described by the regression equation y=0.659 7x,with a correlation coefficient(r) of 0.999 7. The method's minimum detectable concentration was 0.15 mg/m3(based on a 1.5 L air sample). Desorption efficiencies ranged from 98.3% to 100.6%. Precision, expressed as relative standard deviation(RSD),ranged from 0.9% to 1.5% for intra-batch and from 0.8% to 2.0% for inter-batch. Samples exhibited stability at room temperature for at least 10 days. Conclusion This established GC method is characterized by operational simplicity, good precision, and high sensitivity, making it suitable for routine monitoring of 1,2-dibromoethylene in workplace air.
