Abstract:

Objective To investigate the current status of work fatigue risk, dual time pressure, and aging anxiety among clinical shift female nurses, and the relationship between the three, and to construct a structural equation model to analyze their mechanisms of action. Methods From May to July 2025,a convenience sampling method was used to select 381 clinical shift female nurses from three public hospital in Nantong. Data were collected using general information questionnaire, the work fatigue risk scale for clinical nurses, dual time pressure scale and aging anxiety scale for middle-aged women, and were subsequently analyzed. Results The mean scores for work fatigue risk, dual time pressure, and aging anxiety among 381 clinical shift female nurses were (62.69±18.42),(66.85±13.78) and (64.91±13.08)points,respectively. Work fatigue risk was significantly positively correlated with dual time pressure and aging anxiety(r=0.451,0.575,both P<0.01),and dual time pressure was also significantly positively correlated with aging anxiety(r=0.534,P<0.01). Structural equation modeling revealed that dual time pressure partially mediated the relationship between work fatigue risk and aging anxiety, with an indirect effect of 0.180,accounting for 29.6% of the total effect. Conclusion The clinical shift female nurses experience a certain level of work fatigue risk, time pressure, and aging anxiety. Work fatigue risk can indirectly influence the level of aging anxiety through dual time pressure. Nursing managers should prioritize time pressure management for shift nurses by optimizing scheduling systems and enhancing time autonomy to promote their physical and mental health.
