Abstract: Objective To investigate the mediating role of psychological resilience of midwives in public hospitals in Zhongshan City between traumatic stress and empathy fatigue. Methods From August to September 2023,convenience sampling was used to select 152 midwives from 6 public hospitals in Zhongshan City as survey subjects. The General situation Questionnaire,Chinese version of compassion fatigue short scale(C-CFSS),traumatic stress scale for midwives(TSSM) and connor-davidson resilience scale(CD-RISC) were used to investigate. Pearson correlation was used to analyze the correlation between C-CFSS score and TSSM,CD-RISC score, linear regression analysis was used to analyze the effects of traumatic stress on compassion fatigue and the mediating effect of psychological resilience, and AMOS 21.0 software was used to verify the mediating effect. Results The C-CFSS score of 152 midwives was (58.56±10.18)points,the TSSM score was (40.38±7.38)points,and the CD-RISC score was (86.68±11.51)points. Compassion fatigue of midwives was positively correlated with traumatic stress(r=0.499,P<0.05),and negatively correlated with mental resilience(r=-0.745,P<0.05). Traumatic stress could positively predict compassion fatigue(P<0.05),explaining 24.4% of the variance. Traumatic stress could negatively predict psychological resilience(P<0.05),explaining 16.2% of the variance. Traumatic stress and mental resilience could jointly predict compassion fatigue(P<0.05),explaining 59.4% of the variance. The mediating effect value of psychological resilience between traumatic stress and compassion fatigue of midwives was 0.367(95%CI=0.236-0.493,P<0.05),indicating a partial mediating role. Conclusion Traumatic stress can directly affect the level of compassion fatigue of midwives, and can also indirectly affect compassion fatigue through psychological resilience.
