Influencing factors of health literacy of the elderly in China:A meta analysis

Abstract: Objective To explore the influencing factors of health literacy in Chinese elderly people,provide a basis for the future research on the health literacy of the elderly. Methods The PubMed,Web of Science,the Cochrane Library,Embase,CNKI,WanFang Data,CBM and VIP databases were searched by the computer from the inception to January 2022,in order to collect studies on the influencing factors of health literacy of the elderly in China. Two researchers independently screened the literature,extracted data,and evaluated the quality of the included literatur.RevMan 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis. Results A total of 20 studies were included,involving a sample size of 59 826 cases and 12 influencing factors. The results showed that the influencing factors and OR(95%CI) values of health literacy in Chinese elderly people were as follows:high educational level [1.89(1.66-2.16)],high family income[1.50(1.14-1.98)],working as manual workers[0.29(0.19-0.42)],living in rural areas[0.71(0.50-0.99)] and central or western regions[0.68(0.46-0.99)]. Conclusion Working as manual workers and living in rural areas and central or western regions are the risk factors of health literacy of Chinese elderly,and higher education level and family income are the protective factors.
