Analysis on current situation and influencing factors of health literacy in elderly patients with hypertension in community

Abstract

Abstract: Objective To investigate the health literacy in elderly patients with hypertension in Hengyang City,analyze the influencing factors. Methods From November 2021 to June 2022,one community was selected from five districts in Hengyang City respectively,totally 264 elderly patients with hypertension from five communities were collecteded as the research objects. The general information questionnaire and health literacy scale for patients with chronic diseases were used to conduct questionnaire survey,and the data were analyzed. Results The score of health literacy in elderly patients with hypertension in Hengyang City was（93.65±11.63）points. The multiple linear regression analysis showed that age,marriage,education level,occupation before retirement,living mode,personal monthly income,payment method of medical expenses and course of disease were the influencing factors of health literacy in elderly patients with hypertension（all P<0.05）. Conclusion The health literacy level of elderly patients with hypertension is low,and the community health workers should focus on elderly patients with hypertension who are elderly,divorced or widowed,with low educational level,unemployed,living alone,without medical insurance,and with a longer course of illness,so as to promote the health literacy of patients.
