Abstract: Objective To understand the status quo of overweight and obesity among primary and middle school students in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps and its influencing factors, provide evidence for government departments to take targeted intervention measures. Methods Using stratified random cluster sampling,39 416 primary and secondary school students from 166 schools in 14 divisions of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps were surveyed with physical examinations and questionnaires in September 2021. χ2 test and multivariate binary Logistic regression were used to analyze the influencing factors of overweight and obesity among primary and secondary school students. Results In 2021,among 39 416 primary and secondary school students in an area, the detection rate of overweight and obesity was 16.37% and 14.28% respectively. The detection rate of overweight and obesity in male students was 18.96% and 17.59% respectively, which were higher than those in female students(13.79%,10.96%)(χ2overweight=191.596,354.138,both P<0.01). The detection rate of obesity among urban students was 16.90%,which was higher than that among rural students(15.64%)(χ2=11.184,P<0.01). The detection rate of obesity shows a decreasing trend with the increase of academic age(χ2trend=325.571,P<0.01). The multivariate binary logistic regression analysis showed that,in the regions with moderate socio-economic level, eating vegetables twice or more a day,and eating breakfast sometimes were risk factors for overweight and obesity in primary and secondary school students(all P<0.05). The female students, suburban area, junior middle school, residential school, eating fried food less than once a day and eating fried food once or more a day were protective factors for overweight and obesity in primary and secondary school students(all P<0.05). Conclusion The detection rate of overweight and obesity is high among primary and middle school students in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps,so it is necessary to strengthen the publicity of overweight and obesity related knowledge, advocate healthy eating behavior, and take targeted intervention measures.
