Analysis on current status and influencing factors of career success among clinical surgical nurses in Mianyang City

Abstract: Objective To investigate the current status of clinical surgical nurses' career success and analyze its influencing factors,with the aim of providing reference for nursing team managers to develop precise nursing management measures. Methods In September 2023,convenience sampling was used to select clinical surgical nurses from Mianyang Central Hospital as the research subjects. A survey was conducted using general information form,psychological capital scale,nursing work environment scale,nurse professional identity scale,and career success scale. The statistical results were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 software. Results This study surveyed 248 clinical surgical nurses,with a career success score of (38.99±8.09)points. The scores of career satisfaction were (18.81±4.30)points,intra-organizational competitiveness were (10.66±2.81)points,and extra-organizational competitiveness were(9.56±2.51)points. The comparison of career success scores among clinical surgical nurses of different genders,educational backgrounds,professional titles,average monthly salaries,and different numbers of children showed statistically significant differences(all P<0.05). There were positive correlations between career success and nursing work environment,nurse professional identity,psychological capital,and various dimensions(all P<0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that psychological capital and professional identity were both influencing factors for the career success of clinical surgical nurses(both P<0.05). Conclusion The career success of clinical surgical nurses is at a moderate level. Nursing managers can promote the improvement of career success by improving their psychological capital and professional identity,thereby expanding the career development of clinical surgical nurses.
