Mediating role of career self-concept in the real self and career adaptability of college students

Abstract: Objective To investigate the relationship between real self and career adaptability,and the role of career self-concept in it. Methods From March to April 2023,a total of 454 students from a vocational and technical normal university in Tianjin were surveyed by convenient sampling method,and real self-questionnaire,professional self-concept questionnaire and career adaptability questionnaire were used for research,and the data were analyzed. Results Real self,career self-concept and career adaptability scores were (41.74±14.20),(111.15±23.00) and (82.33±13.80)points,respectively. There were significant positive correlation between real self,career self-concept and career adaptability(all P<0.01). Real self could significantly positively predict the career self-concept and career adaptability(β=0.46,0.17,t=11.01,4.99,both P<0.01). There was a partial mediating effect of career self-concept on the impact of real self on college students' career adaptability,with an indirect effect value of 0.31 and an effect size of 64.58%. Conclusion The career self-concept plays an mediating role between real self and career adaptability of college students. College students should improve their real self,promote individuals to clarify their career self-concept,and further improve their career adaptability.
