Abstract: Objective To investigate the multiple effects of emotional regulation and empathy ability on the impact mechanism of mindfulness on job burnout among medical staff in emergency department. Methods From May to July 2023,a cluster sampling method was used to randomly select 249 emergency department medical staff from 4 grade-A tertiary hospitals in Mianyang City as the survey subjects. Mindfulness scale, emotion regulation scale, empathy ability scale and job burnout scale were used for data collection, and the data were analyzed. Results The scores of mindfulness, emotion regulation, empathy ability and job burnout of 249 emergency department medical staff in grade-A tertiary hospitals were (55.79±9.47),(45.52±8.75),(95.98±21.04) and (64.41±16.22)points,respectively. Job burnout of medical staff was negatively correlated with mindfulness, emotion regulation and empathy ability(r<0,all P<0.05). There was a mediating effect of emotional regulation and empathy ability between mindfulness and job burnout among emergency department medical staff, with a total indirect effect value of 0.370,accounting for 43.43% of the total effect. The specific mediating effects of emotional regulation and empathy ability on job burnout account for 20.77% and 15.02%,respectively,with a chain mediated effect of 7.63%. Conclusion The overall level of job burnout among emergency department medical staff in grade-A tertiary hospitals is relatively high, and the mediating role of emotional regulation and empathy ability in the relationship between mindfulness and job burnout among emergency department medical staff is established. Nursing managers should pay attention to the level of job burnout of medical staff in special departments and its influencing mechanism, and focus on improving their emotional regulation ability to further improve nurses' job burnout.
