Abstract: Objective To explore the impact of workplace violence and psychological resilience on occupational burnout among emergency department nurses in Shanghai. Methods From November to December 2023,a random sampling method was used to select 176 nurses from the emergency departments of six tertiary hospitals in Shanghai as survey subjects, and they were investigated and analyzed by the workplace violence scale, mental toughness scale and occupational burnout scale. Results The scores of workplace violence, psychological resilienceand occupationalburnout of emergency department nurses were (6.12±1.28),(84.28±14.37) and(61.55±12.43)points,respectively. There were statistically significant differences in scores of workplace violence among emergency department nurses with different gender, age, working years, professional and technical qualifications, marital status and monthly income(all P<0.05). There were statistically significant differences in scores of psychological resilience and occupational burnout among emergency department nurses with different age, working years, professional and technical qualifications, and monthly income(all P<0.05).The workplace violence score of emergency department nurses was positively correlated with the occupational burnout score(r=0.662,P<0.01),the psychological resilience score was negatively correlated with the occupational burnout score(r=-0.586,P<0.01),and the workplace violence score was negatively correlated with the psychological resilience score(r=-0.528,P<0.01). The hierarchical regression analysis found that workplace violence and psychological resilience jointly explained 35.80% of the total variation in occupational burnout. Conclusion The workplace violence and psychological resilience of emergency department nurses in Shanghai are closely related to occupational burnout, and it is necessary to take targeted measures to reduce the incidence of workplace violence and improve psychological resilience to reduce their level of occupational burnout.
