Objective To investigate the current situation and correlation of job insecurity, emotion regulation strategies and sleep quality of surgical medical staff in grade-A tertiary hospitals, and to explore the influence of job insecurity and emotion regulation strategies on sleep quality. Methods A cross-sectional study design was adopted to select 308 surgical medical staff from 5 grade-A tertiary hospitals in Sichuan Province as the survey subjects in August 2023. The work insecurity scale, emotion regulation strategy scale, and sleep quality scale were used for the survey to analyze the relevant influencing factors of sleep quality among surgical medical staff in grade-A tertiary hospitals. Results The Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI) score of 308 surgical medical staff was (8.34±4.56)points,of which 241(78.25%) surgical medical staff had a total PSQI score of ≥5 points, with different degrees of sleep disorders. The score of job insecurity was (14.84±3.80)points,the score of emotion regulation strategy was (45.31±12.08)points. Univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences in the total score of sleep quality among surgical medical staff with different gender, age, marital status, education level, job category, professional title, night shift rotation, frequency of exercise(times/week),health status, presence of chronic disease, participation in psychological decompression training, coffee and tea consumption(all P<0.05). Correlation analysis showed that the total score and each dimension score of PSQI of surgical medical staff were positively correlated with the total score and each dimension score of job insecurity(r=0.317-0.675,all P<0.05),and negatively correlated with the total score and each dimension score of emotion regulation strategy(r=-0.241- -0.684,all P<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that night shift rotation, frequency of exercise, presence of chronic diseases, psychological decompression course training, job insecurity and emotion regulation strategies were the main influencing factors of sleep quality among medical staff in emergency department(all P<0.05),which explained 66.6% of the total variables. Conclusion The sleep quality of surgical medical staff in grade-A tertiary hospitals in Sichuan Province is poor, and most medical staff have different degrees of sleep disorders. Among them, job insecurity is a risk factor for sleep quality, and emotion regulation strategy is an important protective factor. Hospital managers should pay attention to the sleep health status of medical staff, with a focus on reducing their job insecurity, and improving their emotional regulation strategies to improve their sleep quality.
